The Great Birmingham Run 10k & HM 2026 - Race Report
On Sunday 3rd May 2026, 24 DRR members attended the Great Birmingham Run 2026, the event saw approximately 15,000 people running around the centre of Birmingham taking part in the 10k race which 8 members entered and the Half Marathon which saw 16 members running.

The weather forecast coming into the event was looking very wet but fortunately it changed overnight, and the runners enjoyed a dry day with a mix of clouds and sun, perfect running conditions, there were huge amounts of spectators cheering every single runner throughout the course which not only enhances the experience of these events for the runners but kept them going especially towards the end when their legs started to tire.
We had some superb times put in as usual by some of the DRR runners, special mention to Claire Thompson (HM), Beth Allee (HM), Ryan Thompson (HM) and Jon Birch (10k), who set new PB’s and Sammy Martin (HM), Jayne Kilsby (HM) Debs (10k) and Daarek Sach (10k) who had fantastic runs, just missing out on their PB’s.
One thing that consistently stands out to me at DRR group running events is how strongly the club’s core values of support and camaraderie shine through, from the moment members arrive at a race to that final gruelling hill before the finish line, there is always someone offering encouragement and support.

On Sunday afternoon, these values were illustrated by Anita Quinn, Tracy Bax & John and Daarek Sach who even though they were tired and sore after their own race, found the energy and determination to go back up hills to meet up and run along side members to support them all to the finish line.
These values are at the heart of what makes DRR such a special club, and they will continue to drive its growth and success in the future.
