On Sunday, the first race in the club championships took place at the Leamington Regency 10K.
The course offered a real mix of challenges, split across two contrasting surfaces. The opening five kilometres wound around Newbold Comyn on gravel paths, with a few testing hills to wake up the legs. Runners were then rewarded with a flatter final 5K through the heart of Leamington Spa, surrounded by stunning Georgian and Victorian architecture and the town’s beautiful green gardens.
With 1,814 runners taking part and fantastic support from spectators lining the streets, the atmosphere was superb and certainly helped carry runners all the way to the finish line.
DRR had a great turnout, with 34 members competing.
It was brilliant to see everyone giving their all and producing some excellent performances. Congratulations go to our members who achieved new personal bests on the day: Ben Rolfe 36:44, Iain Bazeley 51:06, Claire Thompson 1:06:33, Naomi Barrett‑Janes 1:15:24, Anthony Middleton 1:15:26, and Jon Birch 45:56.
A special thank you goes to Peter English, Tracy Bax, and Anita Quinn for supporting fellow DRR runners around the course, and to John Sach for cheering everyone on while capturing all the action for our social media and everyone else who came to support.
We now look ahead to the next races in the championships: the Great Birmingham Run on 3rd May and the Silverstone 10K on 6th May.
Hopefully we’ll see even more DRR members lining up on the start line.
