When did you join Daventry Road Runners?
I started running for Daventry Road Runners in 2008.
Why did you start running?
I enjoyed running at school in cross country and on sports days. Running was a good way to keep myself fit for football during the summer off-season.
What is you biggest achievement(s) so far?
I have a few achievements that I'm extremely proud of, most notably my Marathon PB of 2:44:24. I am the Northants Sport 5K Series Champion 2019, I finished first at the Apley Estate Trail Half Marathon in 2019 and also have 31 park run first places to my name (26 at Daventry, Ferry Meadows, Melton Mowbray, Merthyr, Sixfields Upton and De La Ramee). Finally, I managed 42.5 miles in just under seven hours at the Big Bear Challenge in 2018 around Daventry Country Park.
Why did you decide to join Daventry Road Runners?
I became member of DRR to add fixed, regular running training into my weekly routine, to enjoy the social aspect with like minded individuals, and to be able to represent my local club at events. I later decided to become a Run Leader to increase my knowledge on the skills, techniques & components of running. DRR allow me to demonstrate this by organising and explaining sessions and delivering them in a safe manner. I enjoy being able to provide activities that are inclusive for all, but also allow for the development of fitness and endurance. And now, my love for the club has seen me take the reins as Chairman as we try to guide the club towards a bright and successful future.
What race would you love to do, that you haven't run yet?
Easy - The London Marathon. I spent most of 2019 chasing a qualifying time to ensure I would get a place in the 2020 race. I missed out on 'Good for Age' by 40 seconds after the required times were revised, but finally achieved a championship place very late in the year after knocking 13 minutes and 50 seconds off my marathon PB time in less than 6 months. Now the 2020 race has been delayed due to the COVID-19 situation, but I am still looking forward to attending the 40th London Marathon, giving my all, and enjoying the occasion, whenever it eventually takes place.
